Thanks for this piece. I agree whole-heartedly but this is only part of why we don't have a democracy. The Senate by its very nature is totally not representational. The Supreme Court has whittled away at our rights, giving them to corporations. Communities no longer have a right to say no to pollution, development etc. Did you know that James Madison said that it's obvious "the best form of government is a monarchy?" Those founding fathers made sure white men of property would keep the power.
